Enjoyed this dark comedy Flower starring Zoey Deutsch. I don’t think I’d seen her in any other films but she took this part and ran with it, all the across the goal line.

Although the film is replete with blunt adult references, there is no gratuitous sex scenes or even nudity. Somehow this rough and ready coming of age piece retains an unusual fresh innocence.

ROZ movie score **** (Four out of five)

Watched Conclave in my local art-house cinema and felt entertained although the usual stereotypes were rolled out. Decent performances by Ralph Fiennes, Stanley Tucci and Isabella Rossellini ensure an entertaining tense story.

Always something surprising on SBS World Movies, Piercing the 2018 horror drama starring Mia Wasikowska and Christopher Abbott is certainly no mundane walk in the park.

MiWasikowska (Stoker) and Christopher Abbott (It Comes at Night) crank up the sexual chemistry or should I say deviancy in a manner that reminded me a bit of Crash. The decor of Wasikowska’s penthouse flat resembled Suspira’s creepy vibe-fest.

This type of film is part enjoyment, part revulsion and part fascination but it is stylish in other ways such as the photography and soundtrack. Not for the squeamish, though.
